California law AB1825 requires that all new supervisors of employers with 50 or more employees attend training in sexual harassment prevention within 6 months of hire or promotion, and all current supervisors attend training every two years. AB 2053 now requires that we incorporate “Abusive Conduct” or bullying as part of the mandatory topics. Workers’ Comp Accident Investigation Basics

This seminar aims to provide the participants with an understanding of why and how to conduct workplace accident or incident investigations. Often times when an accident occurs at work, the company is ill prepared to conduct an investigation. Thus investigations often fail to determine what caused the accident or incident and how to prevent future similar incidents. “Carelessness” and “be careful” are not acceptable causes or solutions!

Preventing Workers’ Comp Fraud

Worker’s comp fraud, just the mention of it is enough to raise blood pressures and tempers. Most employers attempts at combating WC fraud focus solely on what to do once they suspect that a claim is fraudulent. For example, we learn about the red flags that are indicators of possible fraud. We educate ourselves on how to carefully investigate and properly document the file in preparation for turning it over to the SIU of our carrier or maybe even turning the file over to the local DA to see if they will prosecute it!

Safety and the Supervisor

Supervisors are key to the success of any organization. They can have either a tremendous positive or negative impact on their company. The effects of a good or bad supervisor will be felt throughout the company, not just within their particular area of responsibility. For example, good supervisors tend to have fewer problems as compared to other supervisors. Their shifts or crews tend to work better with less unexpected down time, lost time accidents or incidents.

Defensive Driving for the Non-commercial Driver

According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, motor vehicle accidents are the number one cause of workplace fatalities.  According to NIOSH 58% of workers who died in crashes at work in 2014 were not employed in motor vehicle operator jobs such as semi-truck operators, bus drivers or taxi drivers. Anyone who has employees out on the road for any business-related reason needs to look at conducting some kind of driver training for their employees. This makes good business sense. Driver safety training can have a tremendous positive impact on helping reduce the potential for a devastating vehicular collision and the resulting nightmare, especially if the life or health of anyone involved in the incident is taken or compromised.

Preventing a Workers’ Comp Claim from Litigating

There is a lot of concern about litigated workers’ comp claims, and for good reason.  We know that there are companies in every industry whose employees litigate just about every claim, or so it would seem.  Yet, surprisingly, there are companies in every industry that may have one litigated claim, if any, over the course of several years.  The question is why? Is there anything we can learn to help us reduce our litigation rate?

Preventing Sexual Harassment for Supervisors

California law AB1825 requires that all new supervisors of employers with 50 or more employees attend training in sexual harassment prevention within 6 months of hire or promotion, and all current supervisors attend training every two years. AB 2053 now requires that we incorporate “Abusive Conduct” or bullying as part of the mandatory topics. SB 1087 requires that Farm Labor Contractors must conduct annual sexual harassment prevention training for their supervisors at least once per year for a minimum of two hours per calendar year. Failure to do so can result in the revocation, suspension or non-renewal of the Farm Labor Contractor License.

Discipline and the Supervisor

Discipline. It is one of the most misunderstood and often misused tools a Supervisor has! Some never use it while others overuse it! Both not using and over using it can negatively impact your employees’ morale, safety and productivity!

It can also increase your company’s exposure to fines, citations and lawsuits! It can have a tremendous negative impact your bottom line! So why is this? And, what can we do about this?

Safety and the Supervisor

Supervisors are key to the success of any organization. They can have either a tremendous positive or negative impact on their company. The effects of a good or bad supervisor will be felt throughout the company, not just within their particular area of responsibility. For example, good supervisors tend to have fewer problems as compared to other supervisors. Their shifts or crews tend to work better with less unexpected down time, lost time accidents or incidents.
