Preventing Sexual Harassment for Supervisors

California law AB1825 requires that all new supervisors of employers with 50 or more employees attend training in sexual harassment prevention within 6 months of hire or promotion, and all current supervisors attend training every two years. AB 2053 now requires that we incorporate “Abusive Conduct” or bullying as part of the mandatory topics. SB 1087 requires that Farm Labor Contractors must conduct annual sexual harassment prevention training for their supervisors at least once per year for a minimum of two hours per calendar year. Workers’ Comp Accident Investigation Basics

This seminar aims to provide the participants with an understanding of why and how to conduct workplace accident or incident investigations. Often times when an accident occurs at work, the company is ill prepared to conduct an investigation. Thus investigations often fail to determine what caused the accident or incident and how to prevent future similar incidents. “Carelessness” and “be careful” are not acceptable causes or solutions!

Safety and the Supervisor

Supervisors are key to the success of any organization. They can have either a tremendous positive or negative impact on their company. The effects of a good or bad supervisor will be felt throughout the company, not just within their particular area of responsibility. For example, good supervisors tend to have fewer problems as compared to other supervisors. Their shifts or crews tend to work better with less unexpected down time, lost time accidents or incidents.

Preventing a Workers’ Comp Claim from Litigating

There is a lot of concern about litigated workers’ comp claims, and for good reason.  We know that there are companies in every industry whose employees litigate just about every claim, or so it would seem.  Yet, surprisingly, there are companies in every industry that may have one litigated claim, if any, over the course of several years.  The question is why? Is there anything we can learn to help us reduce our litigation rate?

Preventing a Workers’ Comp Claim from Litigating

There is a lot of concern about the costs of litigated workers’ comp claims. Several industry studies tell us that litigated claims are far more costly than non-litigated claims. There is a mindset that believes that litigated claims are just an unfortunate cost of doing business and that nothing can be done about this. Is this correct? We know that there are companies in every industry whose employees litigate just about every claim, or so it would seem. Please join us as we look at what any company can do to lower the likelihood of a WC claim being litigated.

How to Conduct Effective Tailgates

Your staff is conducting “Tailgate” meetings but it does not seem that the training is helping you with your workplace accident or injury rates. In fact you are conducting the training but you don’t really see any positive return on your investment. Some of your staff is complaining that the tailgates are a waste of time especially since the training is repeating the same information over and over. Or you might be conducting tailgates but your staff is not paying attention, they are not interested in the material you present. Sometimes the sessions turn more into grievance sessions than a safety session. Then the question is “do we really need to conduct tailgates?” Are there any things that we can do to turn things around and make the sessions more productive?

Back Safety: Proper Lifting for a Safe Back

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that one out of every five workplace injuries or illnesses are related to the back. In California back injuries reportedly comprised 26.3 percent of all workers’ comp payments between 2001 and 2011 the highest percentage of any injury type. The CWCI (California Workers Comp Institute) found that 44 percent of back-related claims resulted in lost work days, which contributed to higher costs for such injuries. The majority of the back injuries resulted from employees lifting things. While there are no Cal/OSHA regulations specific to back safety, they do require hazard assessments to identify potential hazards, which include hazards that can cause a back injury.

Introduction to Workplace Safety

Supervisors are key to the success of any organization. They can have either a tremendous positive or negative impact on their company. The effects of a good or bad supervisor will be felt throughout the company, not just within their particular area of responsibility. For example, good supervisors tend to have fewer problems as compared to other supervisors. Their shifts or crews tend to work better with less unexpected down time, lost time accidents or incidents.
