Valley Fever Primer for Employers

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (English)

You might have recently read that Cal/OSHA cited a construction company $27,000.00 in proposed penalties after two of their workers became ill with Valley Fever. You might also remember that in 2017 Cal/OSHA fined six employers a total of over $240,000.00 for exposing their workers to Valley Fever.
Though the companies mentioned above that were cited and fined were involved in the construction industry, this can happen to any company that has employees working outside or driving through areas where Valley Fever is present. Please join us as we take a look at Valley Fever and discus some answers to the questions posed by the topics to be covered.

Topics to be covered include:
→ What is Valley Fever?
→ What are the areas where Valley Fever is present?
→ How bad can this be, doesn’t’ Valley Fever just result in flu like symptoms?
→ How does one get Valley Fever anyway?
→ Can we do air sampling or soil sampling or testing to determine if there is Valley Fever in the dirt?
→ Can I get my men vaccinated to protect them from getting Valley Fever?
→ What can we do to prevent our workers from catching this?
→ When should we be concerned about our workers catching Valley Fever?
→ The Cal/OSHA resource page on Valley Fever
