General Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements
Tuesday, July 24, 2018
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (English)
When faced with hazards in the workplace, Cal/OSHA requires employers to eliminate or reduce worker exposure using engineering or administrative controls. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is the last line of defense. PPE is any safety equipment workers wear to prevent injury in the workplace when engineering and administrative controls fail to eliminate the hazard. PPE can include items such as respirators, ear plugs/muffs, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats. PPE should be used during the time period it takes to implement engineering, controls, administrative controls, or as a supplement when these controls are not totally effective at controlling the hazardous exposure.
